It was all about young men and the lack of initiation into adulthood, Our culture has no initiation rites, so many – teenaged usually – find their own rituals that no one observes. One of the people interviewed concluded that this is partly why death by misadventure is so prominent in that male demographic (between the ages of 15 and 24). <br /><br />In many native cultures, elders send young men out on a quest, hunt or a fast, to bring them in to the place of manhood. We have first Rock Concert, first drunk, first “getting’ stoned”, first dare, all of which we end up repeating, because we’re looking for someone to approve us and tell us we’re okay and we can join adulthood.
